Caring for Your Costume

Handleing:
Take care when handleing your costume. Do not pick it up by weak points or accessories, like the tail, hair, earrings, ears, or fur. Do not crush your mask, or squish it to make it fit inside of a box, as this will cause your head to lose integrity or become damaged.

Storeing:
Store your head in a cool, dry place. Do not store the head below ground, as excessive moisture can cause your head to develop mold, and may mat or ruin the fur. You may want to put dryer sheets inside of your costume to keep the peices smelling good.

Cleaning:
After performances, hang your suit up to dry after turning it inside out and put your mask over a fan or turn it upside down. Apply a deodorizer and disinfectant to your costume (EnBac, Renuzit, Oust, Febreeze) to remove any bad odors and get those sweat yuckies out of there. If you need to wash your suit, turn it inside out and put it in a washer on COLD, with some woolite. Alternatively, you can put your suit in a tub with lukewarm water, ad Woolite, and step on your suit for a bit. Do NOT put a suit in the dryer, unless it has a no heat setting. It is best to let your suit hang-dry with a fan on it.

Do not wash heads in a washing machine. Instead, use disinfectant on the inside of the head and spot-clean the fur with soap and water. You might want to invest in some stuffed animal cleaner for your fur. Also, you can use a damp rag with a bit of soap on the inside of the head, if the odor of dish soap does not bother you. Take care if your head has airbrushed details, and be gentle. Beware of strong odors, as being in a fursuit only amplifies the smell, which can make you ill.
